π€ What is HyperFX?
HyperFX is a decentralized financial exchange that lets anyone trade Forex, crypto, and other financial instruments directly from their crypto wallet β with no broker, no registration, and no waiting days to access their own funds.
If you have read the previous pages, you now know:
- What a blockchain is and how smart contracts work
- What the Forex market is and how currency pairs are priced
- What a CFD is and how it lets you speculate on price direction
HyperFX is the protocol that puts all three together.
π¬ What is DeFi? β the bigger pictureβ
Before diving into HyperFX specifically, this video from Whiteboard Crypto gives a clear overview of what decentralized finance is and why it represents a structural shift from traditional finance:
Whiteboard Crypto β 'What is DeFi?' β a beginner-friendly explanation of decentralized finance: why it exists, how it works, and what makes it different from banks and brokers.
ποΈ The architecture β how everything connectsβ
HyperFX is composed of several layers. Each plays a specific role:
Every component is a smart contract deployed on BNB Smart Chain. The protocol has no traditional server or backend β if the HyperFX website went offline, the contracts would still run and traders could interact with them directly.
π΄ The three problems HyperFX solvesβ
Every traditional Forex and CFD broker in the world shares three fundamental structural problems. HyperFX eliminates all three.
Problem 1 β Custody risk: "Who holds your money?"β
Traditional broker: When you deposit funds, the money enters the broker's bank account. You have a number on a screen. The actual cash is theirs. If the broker fails (FXCM 2015, Alpari 2015, MF Global 2011 β $1.6B in client funds lost), your money is in a liquidation queue.
HyperFX: Your USDT is deposited into a smart contract vault. The contract is public, audited, and immutable. Only you can authorize a withdrawal. The HyperFX team has no access to your funds β the code enforces this mathematically.
Problem 2 β Price opacity: "Who sets the price?"β
Traditional broker: The price you see on your platform is set by the broker. Many retail brokers are market makers β they are literally on the other side of your trade. If you profit, they lose. This creates an incentive to widen spreads, delay execution, or re-quote prices.
HyperFX: Every price is sourced from a Chainlink decentralized oracle β an aggregated feed from dozens of independent data providers, posted on-chain and verifiable by anyone in the world. No human sets the price. No one can manipulate it without manipulating the entire oracle network.
Problem 3 β Lot model: "How are trades structured?"β
Traditional perpetual DEXes (dYdX, GMX): Use the USD-perpetual model β no fixed lot size, a continuous funding rate to keep the perp price near spot, positions are always denominated in USD. This is not how professional Forex trading works.
HyperFX: Uses the lot-based CFD model β the same model used by every regulated multi-asset broker. Standard lot = 100,000 units. Mini lot = 10,000. Per-pair leverage tiers. Spread-plus-commission pricing. Settled in USDT. This is Forex as traders know it β just without the broker.
π± Supported assets and trading pairsβ
HyperFX supports trading across multiple asset categories:
Forex pairs (Phase 1)β
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Major pairs | EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, NZD/USD |
| Minor pairs | EUR/GBP, EUR/JPY, GBP/JPY, EUR/AUD, AUD/JPY |
Crypto CFDs (Phase 1)β
| Asset | Description |
|---|---|
| BTC/USD | Bitcoin vs US Dollar |
| ETH/USD | Ethereum vs US Dollar |
| BNB/USD | BNB vs US Dollar |
π° Fee structure β where every dollar goesβ
Every trade on HyperFX generates fees. Here is exactly where they go:
| Fee type | Who pays | Who receives | Approximate rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spread | Trader (via buy/sell price gap) | Liquidity pool | 0.5β2.0 pips per trade |
| Commission | Trader (at open/close) | Protocol + LP pool | Tier-based per lot |
| Liquidation fee | Trader being liquidated | Liquidation keeper + LP pool | ~5% of remaining margin |
| Overnight swap | Long/short holder (varies by pair) | Counterparty via LP pool | Rate differential / 360 |
All fee parameters are set by on-chain governance β changes require a DAO vote.
π Smart contract securityβ
HyperFX's smart contracts are:
Audit status: An independent security audit is in progress. The audit report and open-sourced codebase will be published prior to mainnet liquidity activation. Links will be added here when available.
Immutable by default: Core settlement and custody logic cannot be upgraded without a DAO governance vote β no unilateral changes by the team.
Non-custodial by design: No admin key can move user funds. Withdrawal functions respond only to the wallet owner.
Oracle-protected: Price feeds aggregate data from multiple independent providers on-chain. If a provider feed falls out of tolerance, the affected pair is paused until consensus is restored.
π Product roadmapβ
HyperFX's unified infrastructure is built for a full multi-asset future. Products are activated in phases β each requiring DAO approval, oracle availability, and liquidity readiness.
Phase activation is governed by HyperFX DAO β no instrument is enabled without on-chain approval and oracle integration.
βοΈ Why BNB Smart Chain?β
HyperFX is deployed on BNB Smart Chain β a deliberate choice driven by the requirements of real-time derivatives trading.
| Property | Ethereum | Solana | BNB Smart Chain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | $5β$50+ | $0.001β$0.01 | $0.10β$0.50 |
| Block time | ~12 seconds | ~0.4 seconds | ~3 seconds |
| EVM compatible | β Yes | β No | β Yes |
| Finality | ~12 min (full) | ~1.5 sec | ~6 seconds |
| Daily active addresses | ~400K | ~1M | ~1.5M |
| Ecosystem (DEXes, stablecoins) | Very large | Large | Very large |
For a protocol where traders open and close positions throughout the day, $0.50 per transaction vs $50 is not a minor optimization β it is the difference between the protocol being economically viable for small accounts or not.
The full Ethereum EVM compatibility means all wallets (MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet) work without modification, and USDT is natively available on BSC.
